GOOD NEWS: TICKETS TO THE SHIT SHOW ARE SOLD OUT!

In other words, I am DONE with this Fresno assignment. I put in my notice after pretty much hating the big picture of the job since week 1. We wanted to wait of course until I was booked for another position (I am now). So we gave my notice this week and gave a very generic explanation to the RD when he called and then they were like if-you-don't-like-us-then-we-don't-like-you-bye. Very petty when I was trying to keep my shit together and not say what I really thought. That's the very short answer. I felt like I was living in a real-life version of Mean Girls complete with the Plastics and a Damien. I already have self-esteem issues (NOT fishing for compliments here) so to know these people are and will talk about me unsettles me. At the end of the day, I did the right thing, so says I. I left a position where I was not comfortable with how they did things and did not want to compromise my professional integrity. I have worked too hard to put my license on the line and will not play that game. I'm gonna hold my head high and peace out.

Also me.
I will say that I have some cool folks and great patients and enjoyed working with them. I love chatting with patients- I think sometimes we as therapists forget that our patients are people too who have lived a long life filled with things like the Depression, wars, life experiences, and times we as millenials couldn't imagine. #therapeuticuseofself

My last caveat is that we as OTs working in a skilled-nursing setting really need to evaluate our treatments with patients and DO BETTER. I've learned more about ineffective therapy while here. Grandma Myrtle is NOT going to make it home because of all the freaking arm exercises she did in OT for God's sake. The rickshaw, the arm bike, the pulleys, and the arm exercises are not going to help her transfer into the shower safely, learn energy conservation strategies for home mgmt, or dress herself. Not to say that folks don't need strengthening but we need it in moderation or proportional when compared to the reason why they're here- going home or long-term care. We're supposed to be creative and think OuT of the box. Therapy supervision for COTAs appears to be different in every state and out here it seems like supervision doesn't exist- I don't have to sign for indirect/direct hours and we certainly don't do supervisory visits on new patients. Not that it would matter since they apparently don't read and the same therapy recipe for every patient.
Ok. Over it. That just really gets my goat.

My readers are probably wanting to hear more about how Bella's doing. She's great- loveable, annoying as shit, needy, spry, and spunky. She likes exploring with me but not touching the water on the beach (most recent trip photos on next post). She likes to poop in the same spots and bark at everything and nothing. She got a new flamingo collar from Leslie and she loves it.

CURRENT MOOD
Greetings one and all! It's a Monday and it sucked but at least it's nearly over now. It's been a shit day and I'll be glad to see tomorrow because it won't be Monday anymore. A lot of things today have put me in a bad mood but I won't elaborate. I will tell you I stepped in pee.

So, because I'm using a lot of energy trying not to murder everyone at work and keep my sanity, I'm going to fill my post with my pictures from the West Coast on NYE and more recently through the Sequoia National Forest.

CAYUCOS and MORRO BAY- Day trip on NYE. Such a beautiful day all-around!

Estero Bay, Cayucos CA
Morro Rock in the distance.

This spot was my favorite view of the day.
Bella loved it too. She did get to run on the beach.

That's all for today. Trying to keep my cool and escape into reading and sleep. I am really anxious to get to the National Parks but refuse to visit while the GOVERNMENT is shut down. A pox on the people who are trashing our nation's parks. Teddy Roosevelt would be so disappointed.

Hope everyone is off to a good week! I'mma try for one!

2018: Year in Review

Image result for happy new year meme

Happy New Year to all who take stock in a 'new year, new me' theory and to the rest of us who are trying to make it to another GD year.
It's the weekend after New Year's and all is quiet in Fresno.
Y'all this post is about my travel year in review. I'll make another post soon about my trip to the West Coast and other things. I'm going to start in January 2018 and go south from there.

JANUARY: January was my last full month working at my school job, where I have spent the good and bad last 8 years. I miss my school kids (well, most of them) and my school friends! Grateful to the ones who stay in touch. I have made so many good friends and experienced so much at SLPS. Pediatrics is still and will always be my first OT love.

FEBRUARY/MARCH: What a great first experience! Working in the very Western part of Virginia. While I wasn't there too long, all my co-workers were/are HILARIOUS and made it so much fun. Experienced genuine Southern manners and hospitality. ❤ Found out for the first-time how unrealistic productivity standards are. Virginia is so beautiful.

So. Much. Snow.
APRIL-MID JULY: Pediatrics in East Texas. Loved being back in peds and my kids (save 2 kids- Susan if you're reading this you know who got my goat!). Did a lot of driving and saw some beautiful country scenery. Met a lot of great co-workers and families. First apartment-living experience. Grew to hate my boss and still have palpitations when I see a car that looks like hers. Able to visit family in East Texas. And Tyler TX is a great city!

Our favorite park.
MID JULY - NOVEMBER: Southeast TX. Definitely different than the nursing homes I've worked at in MO but there are great nurses, staff, and therapists everywhere! It's not about the size or money going into a nursing home it's the people who run it that matter. Compared to where I'm working now- I'd go back to TX over stinking rich any day. Anyway. Met some awesome and hilarious patients who I still think and worry about. Made some good friends in Kelsey and Congetta- Kelsey being a TX sweetheart and Congetta an MI hard-working lady with sass. Honestly, enjoyed all my co-workers which made up for working shit hours and piles of work for being the only OTR. Trying to make a difference in their therapy world. 😆😇
TEXAS HAS THE BEST SUNSETS!

DECEMBER - PRESENT: Ended the year here in Fresno, CA where I'm liking California but not my jobs (picture me trying to not stop my eyes from rolling non-stop at work).

Until next post here is the Pacific coast!
